So...what is this podcast?
5 GMs in a Trenchcoat is a TTRPG actual-play podcast about friendship, storytelling and really, really stupid bits. In all seriousness, it's an AP podcast where 5 friends take turns weaving stories through the tabletop system of their choice each season.
How did you come up with the concept?
We all hang out too much and thought, "You know, it'd be really fun if we played TTRPGs together...but also recorded it." So, here we are! We also wanted to set ourselves apart from the TTRPG podcast market, and the creation of this podcast was around the time when Wizards of the Coast had the whole OGL fiasco. People were branching out into different systems (us included!) and looking for D&D alternatives.
There are also so many awesome systems out there and figured this podcast would be a great way of showcasing them.
How did you come up with the name?
Naming the podcast was arguably the hardest part of the creation process. We threw so many different names out there until one day...
Adam, Jesse, and Kim were sitting around a table and texting name ideas into the Discord chat we all have. After some time, Kim said "5 GMs in a Trenchcoat." We had tossed around the "X in a Trenchcoat" idea before, but it didn't stick. Maybe the power of the Trenchcoat finally struck us or maybe we were delusional at that point, but that's how we came up with our name!
What TTRPG systems do you play?
For the podcast, we've currently played Cyberpunk Red by R. Talsorian Games, Fate Core by Evil Hat Productions Escape from Dino Island by Sam Tung and Sam Roberts, and the Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game. I can't give away secrets for our upcoming seasons...
